GOOD
SHEPHERD VOICES FOR JUSTICE
DISASTROUS
ENERGY BILL
_____________________________________________
This week, in a temporary victory for the environment, the
Senate declared the Disastrous Energy Bill dead, at least for this year. The
news comes after the Senate's failure to force through a vote on the energy
bill on November 21st. This bad bill, laden with tax breaks for special
interests and polluters, gave short shrift to energy conservation and
efficiency in favor of more oil dependence, air pollution and global warming.
Senate leadership has declared that passing this energy bill will be priority
#1 early next year. So more help is needed to ensure this bad energy bill is
improved or defeated in the new year.
See where your senators stand on the
energy bill.
If your senators were among the 40 who said YES to the environment,
and NO to forcing a vote on this destructive bill, let them know how much this
leadership means to you, and urge them to hold firm when the bill comes up
again. Send a thank you note today.

Our Destination Justice Focus Statement informs us that we
believe that a commitment to social justice is as much a part of being Catholic
as the Eucharist is. One of the keys to forming our conscience about social
justice is following the 7 Principles Catholic Social Teaching. One of these
principles is Care for God’s Creation. It follows then that care for the earth
is a requirement of our faith.
